Stubbington 2017 10k Results

Well done to the New Life Training Warsash Running Club for competing in this years Stubbington 10k. We had a great representation with 15 runners attending from the club.

A lot of preparation and training had gone in to this event from the runners. The days preparation was good too – Wine gums provided, porridge eaten and Nina had made friends with the back marker. No training could of prepared Carl for his pre-run prep however as he developed a flat tyre before even leaving Warsash and had to quickly change cars. Eventually everyone managed to get to the rendezvous on time for some pre-run pics –

It was cold and wet and people were reluctant to go outside for the start to begin with. But once the race was underway the cooler weather was actually welcomed. The run, as always, was incredibly well managed, with marshals helping at every corner, even warning runners of oncoming puddles!

There were some amazing performances from our team! Well done to all the runners. In particular, Lisa, her first 10k road race and stormed it with just 7 seconds away from breaking the hour barrier. If only you had sprinted the last 2 meters!! Well done also to Charles who had a bet with himself – over 1 hour = lemonade at the pub, under 1 hour = Beer!! Well he had 4 beers and a burger and chips which I guess equates to the 8 seconds he was under the hour!! Melissa was on her own today, missing her training partner, Katie, who was unwell. She stormed it though, smashing her 10k Personal Best as well!! Awesome! Also achieving their 10k PB was Joanne, an amazing performance saw her finish just 4 seconds behind Greg! Brooke also ran his fastest 10k race, having sorted his breathing out he flew round the course, even putting on a sprint finish at the end for the supporting fans!! 8m 44s per mile was very impressive. He had run with Carl for the majority of the race, but a slight back problem caused Carl to slow, but he didn’t stop and finished in a very respectable 8m 53s per mile average. Nina also completed the route without stopping. Her 11m41s per mile one of her fastest ever 10k’s!!! Her training partner in crime, Rose, had a storming finish and clocked 11m 19s per mile as her average. Well done Ladies!

Gemma was competing with her Husband to see who would cross the line first. She didn’t quite beat him but the competition really pushed her on to a very quick 8m 30s average. Her training partner, Louise, also had a great run finishing just 2minutes behind Gemma with a very strong finish!

Gareth and Nick were very close on the start line, but they were even closer at the finish. Gareth overtook Nick at the 9k marker. Nick saw red and his competitive hormones took over!! A sprint for the line resulted in Nick beating his 2015 race time by 36seconds for a new course PB, but also matching Gareths 48m 16s, which was also Gareths PB for a 10k!! Well done Gents!

Jo was without her Mum and running partner, Sue, today. But she still pushed well and finished less than a minute away from the hour! Well done!
