Running Club News 8/1/18

Monday 8th January 2018

It was the last run before the Stubbington 10k for many of the runners this evening. So a tough route, with a few hills and 6.1miles was the challenge. Mike, Pete and Owen were the early pace setters, Mikes knee slowing him down half way round. Owen and Pete kicked in a gear on the home straight and finished in a very quick time, 7m 43s for Owen was his fastest ever run with the club and a new Personal Best, well done Owen, fantastic run!!

Also setting new Personal Bests this evening were Lou and Sues, the 4.4miles they ran with Sharons assistance, motivation and pace setting was the furthest they have run with the club, well done ladies. It was great to see Lydia and Nina back this evening after a short break, they teamed up with Cat and smashed the 3.3mile route non-stop. Well done Ladies!

Carl looked back to his good old self this evening completing the 6.1mile route well, he didn’t manage to start his watch though until 0.4miles in to the run, so only 5.7 miles were recorded, either that excuse or the bus he caught took a short cut!! Sarah also completed the 6.1miles and looks good for Sundays race, her 8m 09s per mile should have her finishing around 49mins on Sunday and a very tough target to beat.

Charles and Lisa set off at a good pace, the remanence of a cold slowed Charles down on the final mile with Lisa speeding away to record a decent time and the chance to get under an hour on Sundays race. I am sure Charles wont be far away come Sunday though.

Karen kindly ran with Kate this evening who wanted to completed the 6.1mile route ahead of Sundays race. The curry she had for lunch though was probably not the best preparation and should be discouraged before Sundays race. They also took a slight detour and finished the run having completed 6.25miles instead. With all things considered it was a fantastic time though, 10m 29s average is very good, well done ladies!

Running Club Christmas Event

It was decided that the running club would return to the original format in which we have 3 weeks of running the same route, with the 4th week being a special fun, educational or challenge event. The first one of which we arranged as part of our Running Club Christmas function. Now it may have been the promise of beer in the pub at the end of the run that encouraged so many Personal Bests this evening or it could have been the highly competitive spirit within the running club members, either way there were some extremely fast times this evening. The format was a handicap race. Based on the runners past three runs an average was taken and then used to start the runners in a staggered start so in theory all runners would finish at the same time. This was made more interesting by the out and back nature of the route, so you could see where everyone was. It encouraged people to catch the person in front or to run faster so they are not caught. It worked and was a lot of fun.

Sues and Lou set off first and set a great pace, smashing their previous personal best split time and recording their first ever run under 10mins per mile average, well done ladies!! Charles was off 2nd and absolutely smashed it, coming 1st in just 29m 50s and setting a new personal best of 8m 47s per mile, beating his previous best of 8m53s set in……wait for it……..June 2015!!!!!! That beer must have been calling Charles! Greg had a great run too, hitting 9mins per mile average. With Nick C finishing with an average of just 7m 39s.  Lisa also set a new Personal best for herself, 8m 43s! Well done Lisa! Sarah had an amazing run with a 7:32 average and a new PB, as did her husband Pete, with a super quick 7m 12s average!! Karen and Owen also had a great run, only a slight detour preventing them from setting a new PB as well. Fantastic effort team, well done!!
