Running Club News 30/1/17

Friday 27th January

It was a cold fresh start to a Friday morning, but with little air around it felt hard to breathe. It meant for a struggle of a run for all involved. Except Joanne, She wisely chose the shorter route and decided to go for it!! And she certainly did! Completing the 3mile circuit in a record speed of just 9m 33s per mile, wow!! Well done Joanne.

Pete was slightly worse for wear! (Massive understatement). He managed to keep up with Jo for the first mile and a half before fatigue or alcohol fumes took over and he dropped back. Jo pushed on and recorded a great time, well done!

I ran with Lisa and struggled with a bad leg, we both bailed at the end of Fleet End Road and took a short cut back to the club. Still, a sub 10-min mile run was still very good, well done Lisa!

Monday 30th January

It was a light fine drizzle this evening, the kind of light rain that soaks you through to the skin without you even realising its raining. I was drenched on the front half and still dry on my back at the end. Still the weather didn’t put people off as they came along to try and run a course PB as this was the final attempt at this route. Rich definitely achieved his course PB this evening as it was the first time he had actually run the course. Infact his 9m 47s per mile, was one of his fastest overall runs. He was joined on the route by Charles who kept him motivated right up to the final strides.

Alex and Nick set off on the 5mile route, and kept together for the majority of the run, before a sprint finish ( a couple of miles out) saw Alex finish with another fantastic split time and Nicks wasn’t bad either!

Gemma arrived a little late for the start but once she had sorted herself out, plugged in her ipod, set her sat nav, tied her laces, brushed her hair and applied her lippy she was off. She started at the back and used that to motivate herself, overtaking people as she went, she worked her way right through to the front by the time Enjoy Fitness was in sight. The result was a super quick time, her 2nd fastest ever with the club and a 8m 52s average! Well done.

It was Maddies last run with us this evening as she disembarks on a 6months position at sea. She had already run 2.5miles today, just a warm up it seemed, as she flew round the course to record her second fastest ever run with the club as well. Her 9m 10s per mile was very impressive and much better than the 10m 11s from when she first ran with us. Great improvement Maddie, well done and good luck in the future. Her great time was in part due to the competitive running with Pete, Gemma, myself and Jo. We all finished within 20 seconds of each other with Jo often pace setting for the group. Jo’s 9m 10s per mile was her fastest on this route by far and you can see the improvements she is making week on week. Although the majority of the group finished together it was Carl who finished first. He was a blur this evening, a shinning light in the distance! His 8m 54s per mile, was by far his fastest on this route. Well done Carl!

Pete was back running this evening and on form. It seemed he had much better preparation this week than from Fridays run and that showed in his performance. As Gemma strode past him he put his foot down so not to be beaten, and although he was nearly sick, he produced his best performance since rejoining us this year!
