Running Club News 22/8/16

A big thank you to Sharon for overseeing the running club for me while I was on holiday, it sounded an eventful couple of runs –

MONDAY 15th AUGUST

It was a very humid evening and before starting the run it was suggested (Charles . haha) that we did the route in reverse (not running backwards)! which everyone agreed was a really good idea. As a consensus this was a fab choice by everyone.
Sue                           5.6 miles              52:02                   09:18
Alistair                       5.6 miles              56:40                   10:07
Gemma                      5.6 miles              54:51                    09:48
Leyon                         5.6 miles              51:15                    09:09
Carl                            5.6 miles              53.00                    9.28
Charles                       5.6 miles             57.30                    10.16
Sue found the run good but exhausting and Alistair was suffering from aching legs. not surprising with the different terrain. Gemma said she found the run hard and also very hot but enjoyed the run going the reverse way than the previous two weeks. Leyon was looking very strong as he arrived back first and related that he had found it demanding whilst Carl looked very casual on his return; I think they both had been contacting each other before the Run Club wondering if due to their hectic days if they would even make the Run Club so not much prep for either of them. Well done to all of the 5.6 milers!
Greg was on strict orders from Wendy not to overdo it tonight and do the shorter route. He found himself on more of a social run with Mandy and Sharon. Mandy has not been for awhile and was determined to have a good run after her holiday; she did brilliantly and just kept going at a very good pace motivated by Greg and Sharon. Due to the run being more social we decided not to record our times!!
FRIDAY 19th AUGUST

I walked down to stretch my legs but the heavens opened so consequently arrived at Run Club soaking. Thunderstorms were expected and the rain was getting heavier but found Greg ready for a good run with Jo. I was a little apprehensive about going down to the shore as I had already slipped a little on the pavement but consensus was that we would do the same route as the previous two sessions. Just leaving and Angela turned up so off we all set.

Greg was very supportive of Jo who was running brilliantly but nice of Greg to keep an eye on her. He waited for us by the bridge when Angela decided she was ‘just not feeling it’ plus her calves were sore so I turned back with her to the Studio.
I went for a cup of coffee and to dry out whilst Greg and Jo finished the route admirably.
Greg and Jo came in together having been stopped by a road works block on the way so timings a little sketchy but around 47 mins.
Angela and Sharon completed the 2.95 miles in 36 mins.
MONDAY 22nd AUGUST
It was the last evening on these routes and a return to the clockwise direction of the circuit. The route was designed to improve fitness levels, strengthen the supporting muscles in the ankle and knee and generally improve running technique with the Great South Run now just 9 weeks away! Judging by the times the routes have certainly helped in those areas! The routes were never going to give people personal best times, but the improvements week on week are there for all to see. Leyon had the biggest improvement on the circuit, taking 4minutes off his time the 1st week, this brought his average down below 9mins per mile on a taxing course. He was, of course, being chased by Carl, who also had a massive 3minute improvement from the first attempt and he dipped in under the 9mins per mile average as well. Awesome Gents!!
Alistair upped his game this week following his return to the club, he opted for the longer distance and even though he set off far to fast (sub 7mins per mile – that super Mikes speed!) he still finished having run 2 miles further and 45 seconds per mile quicker! Fantastic!
The ladies this evening opted to run together, probably safety in numbers, especially as there is a kissing gate on this route!! They all had a great run, finishing with 11m 32s averages. Well done Rose, Nina and Lydia!
Charles had a great run too, his 30 second improvement from the last run in this direction can either be a result of, or made more impressive by, the copious alcoholic beverages the new local keeps offering him! Still its a great way to work it off.
Greg was running this route for the first time, and seemed to enjoy it (he was speechless at the end). He didn’t get lost and he didn’t stop to play on the beach (allegedly). So his 10m 39s average was very impressive, well done Greg.
NO RUNNING CLUB ON BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY.
There is TABATA however 7-8pm at ENJOY, if you still want to exercise!
