Running Club News 20/3/17

Friday 17th March

A very eventful Running Club this morning. To start with we had a lot more participants than a normal Friday. The beautiful spring sunshine clearly brought out the “fair weather” runners. The route was apt for such a day with some cross country and country lanes to contend with. So 10 runners set off, and for the first time ever only 9 returned!! We lost our first runner ever. Now we all know Greg has been close a couple of times but he has always made it back, this time Nick disappeared.  Granted, he is not from the area, but he actually ended up at Solent Breezes Caravan park, that is someway off the course!! I had run up and down Warsash Road several times, with others out in their cars looking for him before he was finally found, 1hour 23 mins after starting. We will never actually know how far Nick ran as he left his phone behind, but he did run continuously and actually thoroughly enjoyed his route!! For me, I needed a lie down to recover!! Well done to all the runners today, sorry I didn’t get all the times from you. Less excitement and more running next week please.

Monday March 20th

A gratefully less eventful run than Fridays fiasco. However, there were some great achievements. Well done to the girls – Mandy, Sharon, Lydia and Nina, who seem to be teaming up well each Monday evening, motivating each other round. This week the girls ran even further now clocking 4.3miles without stopping and still at a fantastic pace too. Well done Ladies. I ran with Carl to start with which was annoying as I was half-way through a conversation when we had to split, Carl taking the longer 5.5mile route. It was obvious that Carl wanted to hear the rest of my story so he put his foot down for the 2nd half of the run to match is 2nd ever fastest average! Well done Carl…..and we did managed to finish the story although the punchline wasn’t really worth waiting for. After leaving Carl I teamed up with Pete and Rich. We attacked the hill at Lockheath Park Road well and managed to catch our 2nd wind enough to put on a sprint finish for the last mile. I was really impressed with Rich who kept up all the way, hitting a 8m 18s final mile!! And finishing with a Personal Best average pace, even with the big hill in the middle!! Well done Rich, your first run under 9mins per mile. Great Achievement!!

Nick had another great run this evening, following his sub- 8mins per mile run on Friday he smashed the 5.5mile course this evening too. He was clearly being chased by Ghosts! But Pac Man kept them away for another day! Greg had a great run too, this after finishing the Eastleigh 10k in an hour just yesterday!! Well done Greg!! Well done also to Lisa (59:55) and Alistair (53mins) who completed yesterdays Eastleigh 10k. A big well done also to Gemma who completed the Reading Half Marathon in less than 2hours yesterday, a well deserved day off today!! These times show that the running club is really helping and I am glad to see so many doing these challenges!!

Same routes next week team!
