Friday 7th October

New routes this week for the Friday Running Club and a focus on speed not distance with the Great South now just 2 weeks away. The girls didn’t disappoint either. Both Joanne and Lisa ran extremely fast, Lisa achieving her first run with the club with an average under 10mins per mile, a new PB!!! and Joanne, with her new sparkly sat nav watch,  had her 2nd fastest run of the year!!! Well done ladies! Awesome.

Sunday 9th October

It is a tradition now with the running club to undertake a (close to) 10 mile run around Lee-on-Solent as part of the preparation for the Great South. It is fairly flat and mimics the GSR in lots of ways. With 20 runners booked for the GSR it was pleasing that nearly half were able to attend this trial run. And from the 9 runners present today, 5 had never run as far as this EVER!!! What a fantastic achievement!! To top it all there were some fantastic times too. You can expect to take off at least 2 minutes in the Great South as the crowd and volume of runners will carry you for quite a way! Therefore looking at the times below there are going to be some very quick GSR results this year! Nick, all kitted out with the latest in designer run-wear flew round the track and should be looking at 78minutes now for the GSR. Leyon had an awesome run, even with a bad ankle. He started his sprint for home a little too early and will learn from that, he could be looking at a GSR of 80 mins!! James, hasn’t actually entered the GSR yet, but after a bit of peer pressure I am sure he would have done by now, and he could be finished within 82minutes. Alistair has been working hard and not had much time to train, his 106mins today was impressive and a target of 100mins in two Sundays time is realistic. Brooke completed the run in sub 9mins per mile, amazing, a little more push and 82mins could be yours! As for the ladies, Lisa had a stormer!!! Sub-11mins per mile and a revised GSR target now of 100mins not the 2hours she was contemplating!! Rose had an awesome run, and 1hour 50 would be a great result for the Great Run! For Bina, this was a big jump from the 6miles, her previously longest ever run. But she did great, and with a bit of determination on the day could come in under 2 hours! Well done one and all. I will send out some information at the end of the week with a game plan for the big day!!

Monday 10th October

A quieter club this evening following yesterdays 10mile run! It was also the last run on these routes and a chance to put your foot down for a PB!!! Alex certainly had that in mind when he declared he would stretch his legs a little this evening. BLIMEY!!! he came back averaging 6m 18s. Not only a PB for Alex in the club but also a new CLUB RECORD. Bring back Exocet Mike!!! Well done Alex!

Rose was the only survivor from yesterdays run who attended this evening, well done Rose! She wisely took the shorter route option and paired up with Nina. Even after 10miles yesterday she still managed to run the route 66seconds quicker than last week. Well done the pair of you, great run!!

Maddy decided to up the miles this evening, jumping from 5.2 to the 6.6 route. She set a great pace too and even though the course was longer and harder she also achieved her fastest time with the club, a new PB of just over 9mins per mile. Well done Maddy. Gemma was looking to improve on her PB from last week. She slipped streamed Maddy for the first 4miles before seizing her opportunity to overtake on Swanwick hill, Maddy fought back well though and the two ladies kept in visual contact pushing each other all the way to the finish. Unfortunately Gemma finished 32seconds behind last weeks time. Great run though. Pete also chose to up the miles this evening and he had a superb run to come in under 9mins per mile. He also made the comment that he may do the GSR next year for the 1st time. We have witnesses too!! Pete was running with Carl for the first section of the run, but a bad back slowed Carl down in the later stages, he did well to complete the run and will now be soaking in a radox bath followed by some stretches, I hope!
