Great South Run Itinerary

Just 7 days to go!!!
Excited yet??
All of you have hopefully received your numbers by now. If you haven’t please chase the organisers for details.
BEFORE THE RUN
As in previous years we will meet at the Warsash allotment car park and car share to Gosport where we will catch the ferry across to Portsmouth and use the walk to the start line as a warm up!! Please meet at the car park with a view to leave at 8am! We should land in Portsmouth by 9am with a 30 minute walk to the start, ideal as a warm up!! The main race starts at 10.20am so we will have plenty of time to warm up, meet friends, photo-shoots etc. If you are making your own way there please let me know. I would like everyone to meet at flag “N” on the congregation field for a pre-run photo at about 10am!! I would recommend you bring some safety pins to pin your number on, as these are generally hard to come by.
Please let me know if you have any friends or family that are coming along that can “Bag Watch” for us while we are running.
AFTER THE RUN
When you have finished and collected your achievers bag please make your way to the congregation area where we will meet at flag “N”. I would like as many people to meet there as possible so to have a post-run team photo with your medals!! Once everyone is there we will walk back to the ferry and drive back to Warsash!
AFTER THE EVENT
As in previous years I have reserved an area in the Silver Fern Pub, Warsash for a champagne reception at 4pm after the run!! I do need to know numbers on who will be coming back to the pub and how many will be eating. (I have included a few people on this e-mail who may just come along for a drink and food and not run, but please confirm if you are coming!). I have reserved seating for 20 so far and we have 22 runners. I need to know asap, so please e-mail back by return!

NUTRITION
Make sure you have a good meal the evening before, ideally a good complex carbohydrate meal, such as brown pasta or rice! A big bowl of porridge is perfect on the morning of the run, then a banana or wine gums about an hour before the start will ensure adequate energy levels for the 10miles. Keep yourself well hydrated for the days leading up to the event. Avoid alcohol and caffeine on the days before the race and sip water on the morning of the run! But not too much that you will have to stop on the way round!!
SUMMARY
Please e-mail me back to confirm –
a) How you are getting to the run
b) If you are coming back to the Fern for Drinks and/or Food after
TEAM UP
There are quite a few first time runners this year, so to help I have listed below target pace for the run based on your recent averages and my guesstimates. Feel free to chat to people with similar split times on the way, as you may want to pair up to help pace yourselves. These are only rough estimates and do not represent what you might achieve

GAME PLAN

I have spoken to most of you individually about a Race Plan. Just remember not to go out too fast, take on water where you can and pour the rest over your head to keep cool. Try to avoid sugar drinks and jelly babies during the race. Keep an eye on your time and the miles completed and most importantly ENJOY!!

FINALLY
I may have a few last minute places available if you are aware of anyone interested. Please call me asap!
Kind regards and good luck!!
